The following is an excerpt from an article, by Sherry Brunson, which appeared in The Tennessee Star Journal in December of 2005.

Six years ago, John Steinkraus attended a Builder's Fair in the area, and purchased some stained glass from Susan Watson, an artisan from Dollywood. He kept in contact with Watson, and hired her to surround his front door with stained glass. He felt drawn to the beauty that was created. 

The following winter, Watson taught a stained glass class at Dollywood. Steinkraus signed up. He loved creating beautiful suncatchers, butterflies and other objects. It became one of his passions.

Steinkraus began to branch out, creating larger and more complex items. He decided to open a shop in his home, and has also attended shows were crafts were sold. His work is often intricate and three dimensional. A true artisan, John begins by deciding on a design. Sometimes he pulls a design from one of the myriad of books he has purchased; other times he designs it himself.
